CAPS United and their talented leftback, Hardlife Zvirekwi (pictured), were found guilty of contravening sections of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Rules and Regulations following some chaotic scenes which occurred during their league match against Buffaloes at Gwanzura stadium in Harare.
The club and its player were duly fined. PSL confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
“CAPS is hereby ordered to pay a fine of $1 750, $250 of which is suspended for the rest of the season on condition CAPS are not convicted of any offence involving crowd trouble, more specifically its supporters.
“Hardlife Zvirekwi be and is hereby ordered to pay a fine of $2 500, $500 of which is suspended for the rest of the season on condition he is not convicted of any offence where he behaves in a manner which brings the league or any of its sponsors into disrepute,” reads part of the judgement.
Payment of fines must be done by August 31, 2014.
Premiership title favourites, CAPS United and Mutare outfit, Buffaloes played out a goalless draw, but incidents that unfolded towards the start of the second half will remain etched in the minds of many who watched the match live at Gwanzura Stadium via pay per view DSTV SuperSport 9 channel.
Typical of Stone Age way of doing things and least expected of a serious 21st century football club, CAPS United players trooped back into the field of play towards the start of the second half, holding plastic bottles believed to be containing urine which they sprinkled on the Buffaloes’ dug out and on the field of play, especially the Buffaloes’ goal area.
This, it is understood, was meant to quell juju which the CAPS United family believed to be at use hence their failure to score goals. To lend credence to their belief, the Green Machine had the lion’s share of possession in the first half, created numerous scoring chances but somehow failed to find the cutting edge in front of goal.
Having failed to come to terms with their sheer lack of precision in front of goal, PSL chairman Twine Phiri’s team resorted to the unthinkable.
Buffaloes the lodged an official complaint with the top flight league authorities over the detestable incident and a full disciplinary process was conducted leading to this weeks’ verdict.
