A CAR dealer and civil servant was yesterday hauled to court by his ex-wife accusing him of child neglect.
Nancy Kariwo was demanding $160 000 maintenance from her ex-husband, Weddington Maronje, for the upkeep of their three-year-old daughter.
She claimed Maronje owned a car sale, a claim he denied in court.
“He is my ex-husband and I want him to pay $160 000 for his child’s welfare.
“He owns a car sale and he is a Government employee.
“He earns a lot, so he should be able to cater for his daughter.
“Before we divorced, he used to earn US$500 per week from his car sale business and we were together in this business.
“He now has another wife and two children who are below 18 years.”
In response, Maronje said he could only offer $30 000 and US$30.
“Your Worship, I don’t own a car sale, but I am just a mere agent.”
In her ruling, presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Maronje to pay $30 000 plus US$30 with effect from December 31.
