LONDON. — Petr Cech showed just why Arsenal bought him from Chelsea with a performance that saved them from defeat as they drew 0-0 with Liverpool at the Emirates on Monday night.
Cech, who joined for £10million in the summer, had a disastrous debut for the Gunners when he gave away two goals against West Ham on the opening weekend of the season.
But on Monday night he pulled off two of the saves of the season, from Christian Benteke and Philippe Coutinho, to earn injury hit Arsenal a point.
Cech said: “When you start with a new club and everything goes wrong you have to bounce back.
“I was in the right place at the right time. The shot from Coutinho I saw all the way, but with Benteke you have to wait for the moment. I got a bit of luck.
“The positive thing is the number of chances we created in the second-half. But we have to be more efficient and clinical in front of goal.
“Gabriel and Calum Chambers had to step in because of injuries and there was a lot of pressure on them — although they made a few bad passes they kept their heads up, and tried to do their best.
“When you played behind an experienced back four like I have before it is different — but games like this will give these lads that. They did what they could.
“Obviously we have not had the results we would like in the first few games. But I still believe we have the players who have the quality, and who are hungry to win trophies.” — The Daily Express.
