A lot happened last year, good and bad, and it is usually from such that one decides to take a stance at the beginning of the year and work from it to build New Year’s resolutions.
A new year’s resolution is a commitment that a person makes, one or more lasting goals, projects or the reforming of a habit. New Year’s resolutions are not uniform; they are individually based and are made out of personal choice.
With 2012 only a few days old, it is wise for one to make a decision that they would maintain or live up to for the rest of the year.
Saturday Leisure took time to talk to some local celebrities and politicians on their resolutions for 2012.
Recently-crowned Miss Bulawayo Bongani Dhlakama said her main resolution was to clinch the Miss Zimbabwe title.
“I want to excel in everything that I put my mind into but my main resolution for the year is to work hard to win the Miss Zimbabwe crown,” said the beauty queen.
Dhlakama, who took over from Nadia Gori as Miss Bulawayo, also pledged to keep her reputation as a good model.
“My other resolution is to strive on being a good role model in the city and am also targeting working with young children at local hospitals,” said the bubbly model.
Bulawayo mayor, Councillor Thaba Moyo said he wished to surpass his past standards and do more for the community.
“My resolution is to keep well and do more for the people of Bulawayo. I want to achieve this by doubling all my efforts from the past year,” he said.
He assured residents that they would notice changes in all aspects of service delivery in the city in the New Year.
Popular musician, Jeys Marabini said he has a lot planned for the New Year after a bad 2011 when he lost his parents in a car accident.
“I am looking forward to a busy year in 2012 as I am intending to host a festival and embark on a regional tour to neighbouring countries with my band. I look forward to spreading my wings and performing in other towns other than Bulawayo and Harare,” said Jeys.
He said after the launch of his latest album Jeys at 40 he would then hold more shows before he goes back into the studio to record another album at the end of the year.
Jeys, who recently put up a great performance at the Shutdown gig in Bulawayo, said 2011 proved that the local audience was now taking Bulawayo artistes seriously, which was a noble development that would keep them in the industry.
The Resident Minister of Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Cain Mathema said his New Year’s resolution was to be happy in his job and at the same time working for the community.
“I want to be happy in my job and do my job better than I did in the past year. I want to assist more people and make Zimbabwe as a whole develop as well as let indigenous people control the economy,” he said.
Fingers Modelling Agency instructor, Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda said she managed to fulfil her 2011 resolutions despite the challenges she encountered.
“As for my 2011 resolutions, I am glad that I managed to fulfil them although I fell sick with insomnia and I had to lie down for three months and was involved in a car accident thereafter. But I am really looking
forward to 2012 and I want to try and be stronger in my religion than I was,” said Mpofu-Sibanda.
She said she was glad starting the year with two film productions.
“Right now I am taking part in two productions in Harare and in the modelling industry I want to grow professionally,” said the optimistic actress.
Seasoned songbird Sandra Ndebele said her resolution was to get back into the arts industry full time.
“My kids are now grown up and I will be back into the industry full time,” she said adding that her next album will be out by next month.
Ndebele, popular for her energetic dances, said this year she would work hard for her group to embark on international tours for a longer time.
“Instead of the girls going for a tour for a month, I am working on creating synergies and partnerships that would see them touring more countries for more than six months,” said the married mother-of-two.
Many people make resolutions but cannot keep them. Resolutions are however, very important guidelines in ne’s life.
