THE Changadzi District Support Unit will have sub-aqua unit before the end of this year in a milestone achievement that is expected to significantly reduce challenges related to drowning and recovering dead bodies.Speaking at the belated Changadzi District end of year party held at Birchenough Bridge Hotel recently, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mekia Tanyanyiwa, said sub-aqua unit personnel were already in their final stages of training and would soon be dispatched to the Changadzi base.
“As I speak, the sub-aqua unit personnel are already in their final stages of rigorous training and will soon be dispatched to the Changadzi base.
“They will be here soon and we expect the development to help the challenges that have been faced here owing to the absence of a sub-aqua unit.
“Let me acknowledge that 2014 has been quite a hectic year for Changadzi District Support Unit and indeed the whole organisation.
“I am very proud that despite all these challenges you have all pulled together to achieve commendable results and for all your efforts I want to congratulate you for being voted the most improved district in Support Unit province.
“I am pleased to note that despite facing various operational and administrative challenges the district accounted for more than 4 297 arrests for various crimes during 2014 alone, recovered various goods including firearms worth $441 819 and realised revenue of $44 223. These figures are a clear testimony that the district is actively involved in the fight against crime,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Tanyanyiwa urged members of the force to remain vigilant as they safeguard the country’s sovereignty, interest, heritage, natural resources and territorial integrity.
