Chibuku Neshamwari beckons

CHIBUKU Neshamwari Manicaland provincial finals roar into life tomorrow (Saturday), with 10 groups battling it out for top honours in a potentially intriguing competition to be held at Dzonzayi Complex in Chipinge. The event which is meant to celebrate Zimbabwe’s own cultural values and heritage will see Buhera outfit, Machena Traditional Dance battling it out for the first time with their grand dance, Zhana.

Other groups expected to perform are Dhumatasangana, Chinyauhwera, Paiyapo, Charurwa, Chigarapasi, Chikukwa, Chivaraidze, Marisa and Echoes.
Last year’s winners, Redwing Mine Traditional group, popularly known as Ben Arinoti will perform at the venue as a guest group.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Manicaland provincial manager, Jonah Muchayi, said preparations for this year’s edition of the fiesta were at an advanced stage and were ready to host the prestigious event in style.

“All is in place and we urge people to come in numbers and witness the beauty of traditional dances. Last year’s event was excellent and we expect this year’s to be top drawer. All groups have confirmed participation and we are looking forward to having a wonderful day on Saturday. We are expecting tough competition where any of the groups can win. We are also expecting surprises. We are also happy that Machena will bring the dance Zhana to the competition,” he said.

Ben Arinoti that out-danced other groups last year received $500 prize money, while Dhumatasangana who exhibited Mbende dances received $300. Chokoto dance specialist, Musapingura went away with $200.
