CHICKEN Inn midfielder, Shepherd Mhlanga is excited by his call up to the Zimbabwe senior national football team ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The 25-year-old Mhlanga was last Tuesday included in Warriors coach Norman Mapeza’s provisional squad of 30 players from where 23 will be selected to represent Zimbabwe at the Afcon finals.
Mhlanga said being called up to the national team is something that he has always been yearning for.
“This has always been my dream. I am super excited for this opportunity.
I would like to thank the coach and everyone involved for calling me up.
Will also like to thank my technical team at Chicken Inn FC for throwing me into the deep end and believing in me.
My team mates also made sure I played well,’’ Mhlanga said.
his chances of making it into Mapeza’s final squad to be announced on Friday, Mhlanga is confident of being among the chosen to represent Zimbabwe at the continental event.
“I believe in my strengths and I will go with what the coaches decide. It’s more about the team than individuals. But if I am called up I will do my best,’’ he said.
Mhlanga has been vital in the Gamecocks midfield as he started the two league matches Chicken Inn have played so far, against Cranborne Bullets and FC Platinum.
Chicken Inn won against Cranborne Bullets before they were beaten by FC Platinum.
The central midfielder also featured in all the matches for the Gamecocks as they went as far as the quarterfinals of the Chibuku Super Cup where they were beaten 2-1 by Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium. — @Mdawini_29
