Chideu joins Power Dynamos

POWER Dynamos’ new acquisition, Thomas Chideu, says joining the club is a motivation on its own for him to deliver.

The 26-year-old penned a two- and-a-half-year contract with the Zambian top-flight outfit.

Power Dynamos currently top the Zambian top-flight league with 38 points from 20 fixtures.

Chideu was released by Forest Rangers after the expiry of his contract. The giant forward insisted that he is ready for the challenge.

“Switching from Rangers to Dynamos is a big move for me in different ways.

“It’s a huge step forward because Power Dynamos is quite a big team in Zambia and their fan base is also big so it will push me to deliver. There’s tough competition, the team is currently occupying the top spot and it shows that they mean business and as a striker, it motivates me to help the team,” said Chideu.

“I’m always ready for these challenges. As an individual, my target is to finish as the league’s top goal scorer and I can’t limit myself and say maybe I want to score 10 goals.

“I want to score as many times as possible to help the team achieve its targets this season. I think I’m moving in the right direction, and it’s not easy to play in a foreign league, especially as a striker, and this move has also reminded me that I can even do better.”

Chideu played for the Young Warriors from the Under-17s, 20s and 23s, and earned himself a senior team call up.

He also played for Highlanders before making his foreign breakthrough when he joined South Africa’s Ajax Capetown.

He later moved to Golden Arrows, but his stay did not work out.

He returned to Zimbabwe and joined FC Platinum, but it was a short spell as he made his way to Harare City.

He left the Sunshine Boys without playing a league match to join Forest Rangers after impressing the Zambian side during the 2021 CHAN tournament.

Chideu said he hasn’t given up on his dream to play in Europe.

“It’s never too late, I’m still young to stop dreaming about playing in Europe,” said Chideu.

“It’s something which I’m never going to give up on and being recognised here in Zambia makes me believe that it’s still possible. I just need to remain hopeful and invest more energy in doing what will make me a better player.”

He said there was no bad blood between him and Forest Rangers, and insisted that they parted ways on mutual consent.
