Chief Justice Malaba to open 2026 Legal Year

Chief Justice Luke Malaba is set to officially open the 2026 Legal Year today and launch the Judicial Service Commission’s 2026-2030 strategic plan at the Constitutional Court in Harare today.

The opening of the Legal Year is an institutional ceremony traditionally held annually to mark the commencement of the judicial calendar.

This year’s theme is “Using Performance Management and Technology to Ensure Quality, Inclusive, and Sustainable Judicial Service.”

Similar ceremonies are being held simultaneously in various provinces, with Justice Gowora overseeing events at the Mutare High Court.

Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza will preside in Bulawayo, while Justice Bharat Patel will lead proceedings in Chinhoyi.

Justice Paddington Garwe will officiate in Masvingo.

The Chief Justice commenced the ceremony by inspecting the Guard of Honour, followed by the national anthem, before delivering his keynote address.

Attendees include the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi; Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Chairperson, Mr Michael Reza; Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume; judges from the superior courts, magistrates and legal representatives.
