Chiefs, Dynamos battle it out

Allen Khumalo, Sports Reporter
BULAWAYO Chiefs head coach Garthly Chipuka said they are faced with a tough task against fading giants Dynamos in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday after parting ways with some senior players in the second half of the PSL season.

“We have not been playing well lately and they (Dynamos) are not having a good run either so it’s going to be a tale of two struggling teams. The only challenge is that in the first half of the season we had a much experienced side compared to what we have right now. So the youngsters are most likely to be affected by the crowd, but I still have confidence in them,” said Chipuka.

Amakhosi, as Chiefs are known, parted ways with a number of senior players such as central defender Last Sithole, who joined Chicken Inn, Kelvin Nyoni, who moved to Bulawayo City, Polite Moyo (Ngezi Platinum), midfielder Brighton Manhire (Mbombela in South Africa), Talent Mandirwadza (ZPC Kariba) and Barnabas Mushunje (Mutare City).

Chipuka said they might also visit Dynamos without skipper Kundishora Chakanyuka and Takunda Muzuva through injury.

Dynamos have failed to win any game in their last three matches, falling 0-3 to Highlanders before settling for a goalless draw against Chapungu and a 0-1 loss to Harare City.

Bulawayo Chiefs have not won in their last four games, with their last victory coming against Mutare City on August 22.
