A nursing mother today stunned court officials and the gallery after asking to be excused to go to work just before she was remanded in custody.
Vongai Chiwanza appeared before a Mbare Magistrate accused of assaulting her six-year-old child with a cable.
The child sustained bruises all over the body.
Her husband Jacob Mujenje stood in the witness stand.
Vongai broke into tears when she was remanded in custody to tomorrow after admitting her case.
Jacob took the baby home as a prison officer escorted Vongai.
