A 37-YEAR-OLD woman from Magwegwe, Bulawayo has been arrested for domestic violence and damaging property following an altercation with her husband concerning their child’s performance in school.
Future Tiyane of New Magwegwe is said to have assaulted her husband Blessing Sibanda and smashed his mobile phone.
Tiyane appeared before Western Commonage residential magistrate Mr Shepherd Mjanja on 2 June 2022. The State was represented by Ms Melisa Dube.
She was found guilty and imprisoned to six months in prison, of which three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while the remaining three months were suspended on condition that she performs 105 hours of community service at ZRP Magwegwe.
Allegations against Tiyane were that on 25 May 2022 at around 7pm, she was at home with her husband when an aunt of the children (who was not named in court) asked to see the school report of their 12-year-old child who was said to be doing well at school.
Sibanda then started complimenting the child and cursed their older son because “he is nothing like the other one.” An altercation then rose between the husband and wife as Tiyane was warning her husband not to curse the child.
It is said Sibanda then said he was going to sleep out after the misunderstanding. Tiyane started to assault him with fists all over his body and grabbed him by his private parts.
She went on to smash his Itel cellphone on the ground and thumped on it with her foot. In her defence, Tiyane argued that her husband usually fights with her so that he can find an excuse to go and sleep at his girlfriend’s place.
