“This is a special event were we invite national artistes to mix with local ones here in Chimanimani for an exciting extravaganza of music, dance and poetry,” she said.
Senator Mutsvangwa said this was also a significant cultural event.
The Chimanimani Arts Festival is a diverse gathering as it brings together people of all races, gender, creed and religion.
Senator Mutsvangwa also applauded the organisers in ensuring the success of the arts fete. Festival director Chido Musasiwa Gutu hailed the festival as a success.
The festival which began on Friday under the theme, “One Love One Nation — Peace”, ended on Sunday.
Artistes who performed include Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, Chiwoniso Maraire, Assegai Crew, Ba Shupi, Dino Mudondo, Hosiah Chipanga, Josh Meck and the Air Force of Zimbabwe Band. Other performers were Cyclone Band, Lion of Judah, Band Aha, Black Scorpion, Nehoreka, Senior Musareketa, Josh and Radiation, ZCC Choir, Roman Catholic Choir, Agatha Murudzwa, Jusah Mupostori and Tsitsi and the Eastern Gospel, among others.
Most of the artistes were from Chimanimani, Mutare and other parts of Manicaland Province since one of the festival’s main objectives is to promote musicians from the area.
The festival provides residents of Manicaland with an opportunity to be exposed to various arts genres such as theatre, music, spoken word, modern and traditional dance, acrobatics and visual art.
Festival goers are also offered skills training at workshops held during the festival.
They interact with leading artistes while enjoying high-level entertainment.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Delta Beverages and Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe are some of the sponsors of the event.
