China has joined Zimbabwe in commemorating Heroes Day, paying tribute to the country’s liberation war heroes and heroines, both departed and living.

Heroes Day was commemorated on Monday, under the theme “Lest we forget.”

In a message by the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe on their Twitter page, Beijing hailed their sacrifices, patriotism and dedication, saying their contribution laid the foundations for Zimbabwe’s independence, freedom and sovereignty.

“We pay sincere tribute to their extraordinary sacrifices, profound patriotism and selfless dedication, which laid solid foundations for Zimbabwe’s independence, freedom and sovereignty,” China said.

The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe said the legacy of the country’s heroes and heroines continued to inspire Zimbabwe to build “a more prosperous, inclusive and self-reliant future”.

“Bound by time-honored fraternal friendship, China and Zimbabwe stand in unwavering solidarity. We will continue to march hand in hand toward shared prosperity, fulfilling the noble aspirations of these heroic figures,” China said.

“May their heroic spirit live on and inspire generations to come!”
