A 38-YEAR-OLD from Mapinga, Mashonaland West has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a 24-year-old co-worker following a dispute over a belt.
On 24 October 2024, Loyd Banda and the unnamed complainant were washing chrome ore at the Tramore farm site around 8 am.
Banda asked the complainant to hand over his belt, but the young man refused saying it belonged to his brother.
This angered Banda who picked up a knife from the ground and stabbed the complainant in the stomach.
The complainant suffered a deep cut, and Mapinga was arrested.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “Loyd Banda (38) from Mapinga, was brought before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing charges of attempted murder. On the 24th of October 2024, at around 8am at the Tramore farm site, the complainant aged 24 and the accused person were washing their chrome ore.
“The accused person then instructed the complainant to remove the belt he was wearing and hand it over to him so that he could wear it. The complainant refused to give the accused person the belt arguing that the belt belonged to his brother. This did not go down well with the accused person who picked a knife from the ground before stabbing the complainant once on the right side of his stomach. The complainant sustained a deep cut on the right side of the stomach.”
The accused person was remanded to 11 November 2024.
