PREPARATIONS for the second edition of the Chipinge Community Cup are underway, with organisers pledging a bigger and better event this year.
The annual event, in which participating teams compete in football for men and women as well as netball, is scheduled for October 14 and 15.
Companies such as CABS, Tingamira, Nyaradzo Funeral Services, PSMAS, Truworths and DTC Africa have since confirmed their participation.
According to the organisers of the event, the best players will be chosen to make up the Chipinge Dream Team that will tour different parts of the country and beyond in a bid to expose local talent.
Apart from teams participating in sporting competitions, this year the event will include other dimensions such as business expo, culture and careers corner.
The theme of this year is ”Where business meets the community”.
Simba Mwaingeni, the Harare-based banker who mooted the idea to have the annual event, said the event will get underway on October 13 with a business and networking meeting.
“What began in 2015 as a mere roadside idea has blossomed into a big event in the farming town of Chipinge every year. This year, the event has included other dimensions like Business Expo, Culture and Careers Corner apart from the usual glamorous sporting activities.
“Corporates like CABS, Tingamira, Nyaradzo Funeral Services, PSMAS, Truworths, and DTC Africa among others have already confirmed participation in this big event.
“The event will kick off on the October 13 with a business and networking meeting.
”Chipinge is known as a cultural town and in the discourse of the programme, we hope to continue preserving and advancing the cultural agenda through a number of activities.
”We also hope to preserve and promote our Ndau cultures and language,” said Mwaingeni.
He added that following the success of the 2016 edition, the vision of this effort is ensure that all the potential domiciled in the Chipinge areas is duly recognised and tapped into.
This year under the sports category, the model will be that each constituency will have its own select team competing for the top position over the two days.
