Chipinge man offers $5 maintenance for 4 kids

A CHIPINGE man left court officials at the civil courts stunned after he offered to pay $5 as maintenance for the upkeep of four children. The applicant, Dakarai Masuka, dragged his ex-wife, Siliah Chaenera, to court. He was praying for a downward variation from the $20 he is currently paying as maintenance. Masuka told the court that it was difficult for him to continue paying $20.

He claimed to be suffering from chest pains that have rendered him useless. He said $5 per month was enough for four children. “Your Worship, I’m earning $5 a week and I’m begging the courts to allow me to reduce the figure from the current $20. “Life has not been easy since my body is now useless.

“I cannot work for my family and myself,” said Masuka. Chaenera dismissed his plea as lies saying he is trying to avoid paying anything. She said Masuka has not been paying anything since February and that he was refusing to acquire the childrens’ birth certificates. Mrs Chipanga dismissed the application. She also advised Masuka to acquire birth certificates for his children.
