NOW a renowned fitness trainer, Charles Manjera’s name is also synonymous with five-time Premier Soccer League champions CAPS United.

Manjera won the league championship with Makepekepe in 2005, their second in a row under coach Charles Mhlauri. He played alongside CAPS United coach Takesure “Deco” Chiragwi.

The diminutive gaffer has led CAPS United to four straight victories.

“Chiragwi is reminding me of Mhlauri, especially the way he has managed to instil tactical discipline among the players,” Manjera told Zimpapers Sports Hub.

“CAPS United are showing great signs, they are showing traits of champions.

“Chiragwi is bringing back the smiles.

“Everyone is believing once again.”

He is not surprised with how Chiragwi has developed into a coach of repute, the gaffer having also won the 2023 championship with Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Manjera recalls a young and tough Chiragwi who always strived to achieve his goals.

“You could see his (Chiragwi) character, his tactical discipline even when we were still playing at CAPS United.

“Chiragwi was not a soft person, he was tough when it came to doing his duties.

“What he wanted he would achieve. He was a hard worker and very consistent in his behaviour.

“Maybe that’s why he has managed to restore order at Makepekepe,” said Manjera.

CAPS United lead the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table with 12 points from four matches.

“Chiragwi has brought a connection between him and the players. You can see how they sing and celebrate after a win.

“There’s also a great connection with the former players and the leadership.

“Thumbs up to club owner Farai Jere for hiring Chiragwi.

“He understands the game’s dynamics.”

Chiragwi brought along Obriel Chirinda, Kudzai Chigwida, Richard Hachiro and the roving Talent Chamboko from Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Bret Amidu and Takunda Benhura were also lured to CAPS United.

“It is very possible for CAPS United to win the league championship,” said Manjera.

“We don’t want to sound over ambitious but Makepekepe are a big club where big results are expected.

“I know this group of boys can do it, it’s game by game, step by step.

“It’s a process, one day we will lose. But I am sure CAPS United are strong enough.”
