Chiredzi DCC polls nullified

committee, which met in Masvingo on Sunday at a meeting attended by national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu, nullified the DCC election results for Chiredzi and ordered a re-run after the first polls were marred by a number of irregularities.

In a statement released yesterday by the Zanu-PF national commissariat department, the Masvingo provincial co-ordinating committee meeting also unanimously accepted elections results for Chivi, Bikita and Mwenezi districts.

The meeting was chaired by Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke. The party also ordered the completion of the voting process in Gutu and Bikita districts before final results of the new DCC office bearers are announced.
In Masvingo district the party also ordered DCC elections to be conducted in Masvingo South without delay after voting in the area was affected by intra-party violence.

“The meeting endorsed the decision taken by the province (Zanu-PF Masvingo) to nullify the results of the DCC elections in Chiredzi,” said the party in the statement.
“The results were nullified due to gross irregularities.

“The province asked Chiredzi district to organise a re-run while the meeting agreed that DCC elections be conducted in Masvingo South without delay.” The Zanu-PF provincial co-ordinating committee meeting also agreed to make sure there is no imposition of candidates during primary elections to choose the party’s candidates for the forthcoming polls that will be held this year.

The revolutionary party also resolved to leave no stone unturned in the quest to make sure that Zanu-PF reclaims all the seats that were lost to the MDC during the 2008 harmonised polls.

Out of 26 parliamentary seats in Masvingo, Zanu-PF won 12, while MDC had 14.
