“I am sure this new album will bear testimony to our experiences and our mutual passion for the spoken word.
“It is a real emotional phase of our reasonable long journey in the jungle that we ventured into. It is driven by the love of self-expression and respect for differences in society,” he said.
Nyathi could not hide his joy over the yet-to-be released project.
“I feel excited working with Chirikure as someone I have worked with for over two decades now. This is just an opportunity that we have been looking
forward to since we have our solo projects,” said Nyathi.
He added, “We are both extremely happy to be coming up with an album of this nature and I believe we are seasoned poets who the youngsters can emulate”.
Nyathi said they used three languages – Shona, English and isiNdebele. Both artistes started poetry performances in the 1980s and are the best of friends.
They have been fortunate to publish several individual books, recorded albums, worked with a lot of artistes and shared the stage locally and abroad.
Some of the songs to look forward to are “Ndinetse (Bother Me)” and “Chiso Chako (Your Face).” The first song talks of about a father who is reminding his daughter or son that they should look up to their father whenever they need help.
On “Chiso Chako”, it’s about true love and appreciation of someone regardless of who they are.
