Chirombe, who took up umpiring as a full-time career in 2009, has officiated at a number of overseas tournaments, including the 2005 Under-19 Afro-Asia Cup in Sharjah, UAE, and the 2009/10 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
“This invitation attests to the calibre of sports administrators that Zimbabwe is able to produce,” said ZC spokesperson, Shingai Rhuhwaya.
“We are proud of Owen and have every confidence that he will represent us well during this tournament.”
Meanwhile, South Africa will arrive in Harare on June 18 for fine ODIs and Twenty20 matches.
The Proteas will tour England for three months after the Harare trip.
Ranked second in the ODIs in the world, the Proteas’ visit is not part of the ICC Future Tours programme but the mathes will be played under the bilateral agreement between the two cricket associations.
In a statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket, all the matches would be played in the afternoon to make up for the poor winter light.
