The Municipality of Chitungwiza said it had set aside a budget to deal with sewage problems.
In a statement, Chitungwiza Town Council said:
“We would like to inform you that we are not folding our hands and leaving you to endure the sewerage problems in our town.
“Please be advised that a budget of US$3 million in 2023 was set towards rehabilitation of sewerage infrastructure that has collapsed in hotspots.
“The areas to be attended to include, PaGomba, Tilcor, St Mary’s Pump Station 2 to Pump Station 3, St Mary’s Trunk Line, Zengeza Outfall, Unit C. Jambanja and Upper Seke Outfall,” read the statement.
Chi-town has been affected by sewerage problems for a long time.
“In 2022, we embarked on a sewer rehabilitation project for Unit C. However, during procurement process, forward pricing of materials took centre stage and affected the project.
“In August last year, an evaluation of tender was done and a bag of cement was quoted at US$28 against the prevailing price of between US$9 to US$11.
“We were granted authority to procure cement directly from the manufacturer in October. This affected the implementation of the projects, and resultantly were rolled over to this year.”
