Choppies opens Mutare branch

ONE of the fastest expanding retail outlets, Choppies Supermarket officially opened a new supermarket in Mutare today (Friday). The Mutare branch, which is located at Shop Number 3, Second Street was officially opened by Vice-President, Cde Mr Phelekezela Mphoko at 9am.  The Mutare branch brings the total number of Choppies Supermarkets in the county to 21, with the majority of its stores located in Bulawayo as well as Harare. Lucky customers and suppliers are expected to walk away with several prizes. A customer who purchases selected goods today (Friday) stands to walk away with exciting prizes, while there is also a suppliers’ promotion also lined up.

In a statement, the supermarket said: “It will be entertainment galore by local artistes such as Banyana Bafana.

“Customers stand a chance to win several prizes in the opening day lucky draw to be held later today at 6pm. Customers stand a chance to win electric irons, rotating box fans, toasters, water glasses and grocery vouchers just for spending $5 or more at the store.

“Choppies Supermarket prides itself in taking its services to the people by bringing them good quality products at the most affordable prices possible. This can particularly be seen within its service departments including the Fruit and Vegetable, Bulk, Butchery, Deli and bakery departments.

On top of this, customers can expect convenience; thanks to Choppies opportune trading hours.” The Mutare branch will be opened 365 days of the year, from 7am to 8pm, making it convenient for Mutare residents to access Choppies services throughout.

“Choppies should also be praised for its empowerment through employment opportunities for local members of the community where it trades. Choppies Mutare in particular has empowered just over 70 Mutare residents through employment and this is a much welcomed gesture,” said the statement. The Choppies brand was established in 1986 in Botswana and grew regionally to South Africa and further to Zimbabwe.

It currently has over 120 supermarkets regionally and is dual listed on the Botswana Stock exchange as well as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.  Choppies plans to continue to take their services to the people in the course of their massive expansion plan throughout Zimbabwe. “For those who would have missed out on the grand opening festivities, please note that the opening specials will run from the September 4 to 11, 2015.

Choppies Mutare also offers cash back services, distance buying, Ecocash and ZESA payments, just to name a few,” said the statement.
