CRIMINAL Investigation Department details from three provinces that make up the Southern Region will today trade their weapons for sporting attire when they compete in the annual CID Co-ordinator’s Gala at         Raylton Sports Club. The detectives will compete in six disciplines namely netball, football for both men and women, volleyball also for both men and women, pool, darts and chess. Officer commanding CID in the Southern Region, Mavis Nkomo, is expected to grace the event and witness the selection of her representative regional team.

“After the games, which kick off in the morning, a select squad per discipline will be selected that will represent the region in the inter-regional games,” said police spokesperson Mandlenkosi Moyo.

Last year the Co-ordinator’s Gala was dominated by Matabeleland South under the stewardship of Max Manqadi and all eyes will be on them today as they will be the team to beat.

The law enforcers’ games will culminate in the selection of a national squad that will represent Zimbabwe at the Southern African Police Chiefs Co-operations Organisation Games (SARPPCO) where the Zimbabwe teams have been ruthless since the inception of the regional competition, bullying their opponents into submission.
