CIT ROBBERIES: POLICE TO MEET SECURITY FIRMS

AMID a wave of armed robbery cases involving cash in transit vehicles, police chiefs will meet security guard firms to try and find ways of dealing with the crisis.

Some of the cases are believed to be inside jobs where employees and security guards disclose company cash movements to armed robbers.

The business community fighting crime and Community Liaison Committee members have been meeting police to try and find ways to reduce criminal cases. Today, the Officer Commanding Harare province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru is expected to meet a number of security guard firms to try and find ways of dealing with the rising cases in which cash in transit vehicles are being hit by armed robbers.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, told H-Metro that national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi and Criminal Investigation Department detectives are expected to address the security guard firms.

“Police are urging all security guard firms to attend the meeting to be held at Harare Central Police Station tomorrow (today). Officer Commanding Harare province, police national spokesperson and senior detectives under Criminal Investigations Department are expected to meet security stakeholders in finding ways to reduce cases involving robbery cases in and around Harare,” said Insp Chakanza.
