The City of Harare has advised residents not to panic over the discoloured water they are getting from their taps.
The city’s spokesperson Mr Stanley Gama said the discolouring was caused by sludge accumulated at Warren Control Water Distribution Centre, which had not received water over the last few days.
“The discoloured water is a result of low levels at the reservoirs while the sludge is an accumulation of water chemicals used in the tanks over time,” he said.
Mr Gama said when water supplies were restored at the reservoirs, the sludge was forced out, leading to discolouration of the water.
”This is not harmful and we urge residents not to panic,” he said.
”For now, residents may use the water for other purposes such as watering their gardens.
“Our engineers have since rectified the problem at Warren Control and the water will clear once we start pumping early tomorrow (Monday) morning.”
