CITY Sophists are the early Manicaland Basketball League pacesetters after making light work of Chikanga Basketball Club last Saturday.
The league started late last month (September) with most teams having played two matches so far. Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson Taurai Dhliwayo said although the league was still in its infancy some teams were already sounding warning shots.

“Most teams have played two matches, though a few have played three matches. City Sophists are the current log leaders with a clear one-point lead after they defeated Chikanga 64-61 in last weekend’s matches. The team has five points after winning two matches and drawing one.

“Traditional leaders Mercenaries are in second position having played two matches and winning both. Africa University Basketball Club is in position three after winning their two matches played so far. The two teams will clash tomorrow (Saturday) in a potential thriller at Raylton Sports Club at 1.30pm.

“Dangamvura is following AU with three points after winning one match, while drawing the other. Chiefs are in position five after playing three matches and losing all. Sakubva and Chikanga are at the base of the log with only two points each after playing two matches,” said Dhliwayo.

In the MBA Week Four matches to be played at Raylton Sports Club this weekend, Sakubva will face Chikanga, Mercenaries will play AU and Dangamvura respectively. In another match, log leaders, Sophists clash with AU,” said Dhliwayo.
