A 37-year-old motorist lost his vehicle and cash to a female passenger who had hired his taxi.
The incident happened in the Harare Central Business District.
Moses Mozalande, who operates an InDrive taxi, left the keys on the ignition to look for change at a petrol service station.
His client, identified only as Natalie, disappeared with his silver Mitsubishi motor vehicle, registration AHO 8059.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Circumstances were that the accused person hired the complainant’s car, through the InDrive application for transport from Tafara to Southerton at an agreed fare of US$8.50.
“Whilst travelling through the Harare Central Business District, the complainant parked the motor vehicle at the corner of Cameroon Street and Robert Mugabe Road in order to look for change.
“He left the accused person seated alone inside the vehicle with the ignition keys left in the ignition.
“There was also US$370 cash on the dashboard. In addition, the vehicle contained one ZTE cellphone, one Itel cellphone and one Tecno cellphone.
“After some minutes the complainant returned and discovered that the accused person had stolen the motor vehicle and disappeared from the scene,” said Insp Chakanza.
