Zifa Southern Region teams are ready for the LG Foods Super 16 Wafa Wafa Cup set to kick off this Saturday. Black Boots chairman Sydney Madzvimbo yesterday said that they were going into the encounter against BCC Golden Stars fully prepared to proceed to the next stage of the tournament. Madzvimbo’s team is at the top of the table in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League while Golden Stars are poised for promotion from Bulawayo Province’s Division Two.
“We’re not taking any team for granted, we’ll get into the match fully prepared to win,” said Madzvimbo.
Madzvimbo applauded LG Foods for their generous sponsorship. We’re very grateful to LG Foods for supporting Southern Region football,” said Madzvimbo.
The knockout tournament is sponsored to the tune of $12,000 and was unveiled at Raylton Sports Club in Bulawayo last week. Sixteen teams drawn from Division One to Division Three are taking part.
Mandla Manyathela, the Tsholotsho FC spokesperson, said that the team was more than ready for their encounter against EM Sports.
“We’re looking forward to hosting EM Sports on Saturday,” said Manyathela.
Technosphere’s chairman Ozias Ngwenya said that they were pinning their hopes on their youthful side to get them smiling up to the final stages of the tournament.
“We’ve very young and energetic players who’re capable of taking us to the end of the tournament,” said Ngwenya. The LG Foods Super 16 Wafa Wafa Cup will feature the top eight teams from the Southern Region Division One and four teams each from Division Two and Three leagues.
One of the Division Two teams, Makomo, will come from the Matabeleland North Division Two League.
The cup winners are set to pocket $2,000, losing finalists $1,500 while the losing semi-finalists will share $750.
