A 20-YEAR-OLD woman from Gokwe died after allegedly drinking a concoction she got from a traditional healer to “cure her barrenness.”
Atalia Ndlovu died two days after taking the concoction on September 15 and the traditional healer, only identified as Sigauke, has been on the run.
Acting Midlands Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident.
“Police in Manoti, Gokwe are investigating a case of suspected murder which occurred on September 15 at Crispen Ben Village,” said Ass Insp Mukwende.
She said Atalia and her husband Morgen Ndlovu (30) consulted Sigauke, originally from Chipinge, who they believed could help her conceive.
“On Thursday September 13 at around 10AM, Morgen and his wife consulted the suspect who was operating in their area and is believed to heal barenness.
“Sigauke gave them a concoction which Atalia drank. Immediately after consuming the mixture, she started experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting,” said Ass Insp Mukwende.
On the following day, Atalia took some medication hoping that it would minimise the pains.
“On Friday, her condition deteriorated and she took some medication hoping the pain would go away. On Saturday morning she died and the matter was reported at Manoti Police Station.”
Ass Insp Mukwende appealed for assistance from members of the public who might know Sigauke’s whereabouts.
“The police have launched a manhunt and are appealing to the members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to make a report at any nearest police station, or make use of suggestion boxes near them,” she said.
