Natasha Kangaru, the corporate services manager at the Consumer Protection Commission, has appeared in court facing criminal abuse of office charges for awarding herself an undue school fees benefit totalling US$26 956.

Kangaru appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei and was freed on US$200 bail.

It is the State’s case that during the period from January 2023 to December 2024 at the Consumer Protection Commission Offices in Harare, Kangaru unlawfully and intentionally acted contrary to or inconsistent with her duties, by omitting to advise the commission’s board and management on compliance with the requirements of Section 19 of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act Chapter 10:31.

The Act governs the conditions of service for public entities’ senior management and because of her omission the commission unprocedurally offered its management including herself undue school fees benefit totaling US$26 956.

Kangaru is accused of showing favour to herself and other executives thereby acting unlawfully.
