A BULAWAYO police officer allegedly kicked his wife out of their matrimonial home soon after their hearing at the Maintenance Court. Lastin Jack of Ross Camp was dragged by his wife, Chipo Maseko to court for a protection order after he threw her out of their house. Jack told magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure that he and his wife were living the life of “a cat and a mouse”.
He said it was, in fact, Maseko who was abusing him.
Jack told the court that he never chases his wife out of their matrimonial home but instead, she dragged him to the Maintenance court before she could tell him what their problem was.
“Your Worship, I’m willing to make things right with my wife but the problem is she doesn’t want my children to come and stay with us yet she allows her own children to visit. The life we’re living at home is that of a cat and mouse. She’s the one who’s been abusing me.
“She came to my work place one morning and I could see that she had not slept at home. She started insulting me saying that I’m an old man. I was very angry but I placed down my firearm and my workmate helped me to calm down. I wonder whether she was wearing a mask when she fell in love with me that she could not see that I was already old,” said Jack who performs guard duties at the Zanu-PF provincial offices.
Magistrate Mashavakure said: “Now you are confirming that you’re living the life of a cat and mouse. Isn’t a cat always chases after a mouse? ”
The Magistrate granted the protection order and ordered Jack to stop chasing Maseko from their matrimonial home.
She said the two should keep peace with each other.
Maseko told the court that she has never abused her husband. She said Jack does not want to cater for the needs of the children.
She told the court that the day she went to Jack’s workplace, she was coming from a church all night prayer service.
“Your Worship, I went to his workplace because I needed money to buy food for the children. I’ll start receiving the maintenance money end of this month through a garnishee order. He has a tendency of chasing me and the children from our matrimonial home,” said Maseko.
