Cop teams up with civilian in extortion bid

A police officer, who is on suspension, is in trouble after he allegedly teamed up with his civilian friend in an extortion bid.
Brighton John and his friend Tendayi Chiraya are set to appear before magistrate Isheanesu Matova this afternoon facing criminal abuse of duty and impersonating a police officer allegations.

Allegations are that John, who is stationed at ZRP Budiriro, and Chiraya teamed up and went to Robert Mugabe Square where they found a truck offloading goods belonging to Emmanuel Ndemera and demanded to search the goods.

The two were in a car and John disembarked first and went to Ndemera and introduced himself as a Police officer from Harare Central on duties of Anti-Corruption.

Ndemera demanded to see John’s identity card and Chiraya disembarked and introduced himself as a police officer from Harare Central Anti-Corruption as well.

Ndemera demanded to see his identity card and Chiraya produced an identity card that didn’t belong to the ZRP.

He then changed his story and claimed he was from the Anti-Corruption Commission of Zimbabwe.

Ndemera sought assistance from police officers from Harare Central who swiftly reacted to the scene and managed to arrest the duo.
