Zimbabwe Commercial Famers Union (ZCFU) vice president Maideyi Maswi told New Ziana that the meeting did not come up with any good news for farmers.
“We did not agree. The meeting was too tense.
“As farmers we are saying at least $0,45 per kg for grade D and $0,55 per kilogramme for grade A,” she said.
She said ginners maintained their initial position offering $0,29 and $0,40 for the lowest and highest grades respectively.
Maswi said the season had, however, been opened but urged farmers to sell where they agreed on prices they were demanding.
“By opening the season we are not saying farmers should start to sell with the prices being offered by the ginners,” she said.
She said another meeting would be held next week Friday to ascertain the market forces.
The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA), ginners and farmer unions attended the meeting.
Ginners are arguing that lint prices have continued to fall on the international market due to low uptake of last season’s stock. — New Ziana.
