The EACZ regulates the property sector in terms of the Estate Agents Act, which demands that all operators in the sector be registered with the council.
EACZ registrar Mr Bennias Gweme told New Ziana that the move was meant to protect the public from doing business with unregistered agents.
“This serves to warn customers that if they are doing any deals with these unregistered companies they are taking risks.
“On Friday we are going to publish registered estate agents so that customers will know who to deal with.”
Mr Gweme said a number of estate agents were making last-minute efforts to register with the council.
EACZ does an audit every year so as to check whether there are any irregularities in the operations of the estate agencies.
“This ensures that clients have recourse to justice in the event of a dispute with the agencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Gweme said EACZ will this week hold a seminar in the capital to explore ways of improving operations in the industry.
“So far about 60 estate agents have already registered to attend this seminar,” he said. — New Ziana
