MUTARE City Council is weeding out individuals involved in unlawfully allocating vending spaces and collecting money from vendors, warning that the practice is a serious criminal offence.
Town Clerk Mr Blessing Chafesuka said the local authority is taking strong action against the culprits.
“We are deeply concerned about reports of individuals unlawfully interfering with Council operations by illegally allocating vending spaces and collecting money from vendors under the pretext of protection fees. Participation in these illegal activities constitutes a serious criminal offence.
“Council is going to take legal action to address this ssue, and we urge vendors to report any such incidents and refrain from engaging in these unlawful activities. The law will ultimately hold accountable all those involved in these practices,” said Mr Chafesuka.
He urged vendors and traders operating from designated areas to continue complying with the by-laws.
“City of Mutare is committed to upholding the law, and we encourage everyone conducting business in the city to reject this blatant lawlessness and adhere to the legal guidelines in place,” added Mr Chafesuka.
