A 36-year-old man and his 39-year-old wife from Kawindi Village under Chief Sinamagonde of Lusulu in Binga, Matabeleland North province are at the centre of a shocking ritual in which they allegedly ordered their daughter to strip naked and urinate in the middle of a kraal at midnight so that their cattle would give birth to female calves only. The girl is the stepdaughter of the man married to her biological mother.
After performing the bizarre ritual in 2014, for three consecutive days the girl who is now 17 years old reportedly started bleeding continuously from her private parts in 2021.
Her mother is reported to have chillingly confessed that this was a result of the alleged ritual they had performed to ensure their cows would only give birth to female calves.
Apparently as part of the benefits of the alleged ritual, the cattle began giving birth exclusively to female calves, and one cow even produced twin calves.
After experiencing the bleeding condition as a result of the alleged ritual, the girl was rescued from the clutches of her ‘evil’ mother and stepfather. She is now staying with Chief Sinamagonde, under whose jurisdiction the couple’s area falls.
Details of the sickening ritual which apparently went wrong are that on an unknown date but sometime in 2014 the couple whose names are being withheld to protect the victim are that they ordered the seemingly unsuspicious girl who by that time was a minor to strip naked and urinate in the middle of a kraal at midnight. It is reported that the couple ordered the girl to perform the same act for three consecutive days.
It is alleged that sometime in 2021 the girl began experiencing health problems involving continuous bleeding from her privates. She then confronted the two — her mother and stepfather. Her stepfather reportedly told her that her mother would let her know the cause of her health problems.
That is when her mother told her that the cause of the problem was an incident that occurred sometime in 2014 when they allegedly ordered her to urinate in the middle of the kraal during the night while she was stark naked.
She said it was part of a ritual to ensure their cows would give birth to only female calves, and she suspected this was the source of her problems. She also warned her daughter not to reveal the family secret to anyone.
Convinced that the ritual was the root cause of her problems, and after also confirming her suspicions with a prophet, the girl alerted other community members. With their support, she reported the matter to the police.
Investigations by the police led to the arrest of her mother and stepfather. Upon their arrest, it was also revealed that their cattle now exclusively give birth to female calves, with one cow producing twins.
The two have since appeared before Binga resident magistrate Victor Mpofu, charged with engaging in practices commonly associated with witchcraft. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and were both remanded in custody to 29 July for continuation of trial.
