DETECTIVES in Mutare on Saturday nabbed three drug dealers, including a couple, who were in possession of methamphetamine, several sachets of dagga and bottles of broncleer cough syrup.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the couple – Humidity Chiponga and Progress Sengure – and Nokhutenda Manana were caught in possession of 56 sachets of methamphetamine, 177 sachets of dagga and 11x100mls bottles of broncleer cough syrup with codeine stashed in a grey satchel bag in Mutidzawanda Village in Chakohwa in Chimanimani.
“On March 22, 2025 and at around 10am, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Manicaland, received information that the accused persons, who include a couple (Chiponga and Sengure) were in possession of dangerous drugs at their home.
“The detectives proceeded to the mentioned address where they located accused persons seated in a one roomed shelter. Detectives identified themselves to them and explained their nature of enquiry. They conducted searches in the room leading to the recovery of 56 sachets of methamphetamine, 177 sachets of dagga and 11x100mls bottles of broncleer cough syrup with codeine stashed in a grey satchel bag. Accused persons were arrested and escorted to CID Drugs and Narcotics Manicaland for further management,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
A field test was carried out on the suspected drugs in the presence of the accused persons, and tested positive to methamphetamine.
The recovered methamphetamine weighed about 19.0 grams, with a street value of US$190. The dagga weighed 534g with street value of US$53 while the recovered bottles of broncleer cough syrup were worth US$55.
Accused persons had allegedly acquired the drugs from one Madam Boss of Hobhouse in Mutare.
