THERE was drama at Hillside Nursery School in Bulawayo when a former teacher allegedly teamed up with her husband and flogged the headmistress in front of the pupils and other teachers accusing her of abusing her child.

It is reported that Maria Banda was humiliated when Gladys Mhondera and her husband Victor Kudakwashe Mhondera stormed the school and allegedly harassed her.

It is alleged that the couple were verbally insulting Banda labelling her a witch and in the process recording a video of the sickening attack.

Banda narrated her ordeal at the Bulawayo Civil Court where she was seeking a peace order against the couple.

She said the couple was always threatening her saying they will not rest until she was removed from the school.

a?I am appealing to this court to assist me with a peace order against Gladys Mhondera and her husband Victor Kudakwashe Mhondera. Gladys is a former employee at my workplace at Hillside Nursery School.

a?The couple started insulting me on 21 June when they stormed the school premises and the class I teach. They disrupted lessons when they started insulting and assaulting me in front of the pupils.

a?They were accusing me of abusing their child who is not even enrolled at the school. While harassing me they were also calling me a witch. They were also recording events of the brutal incident with their mobile phones while sternly charging me to keep quiet and follow their instructions,a? she said.

Banda further told the court that the two parties degraded her dignity and the police could not help.

a?The police from Hillside Police Station where I reported the matter even failed to protect me. Instead of arresting the couple for assaulting me the police took sides with the parties and detained me for more than five hours,a? she said.

The couple did not however, come to court leading the magistrate Manasa Musiiwa to grant an order which compels them not to abuse Banda by insulting, assaulting or threatening her. .
