While bands and groups in the City of Kings struggle to find a place where they can regularly practise their craft, Tribal house trio Djembe Monks have found a home at city joint, Pub La Gondola. The trio has over the last few months been a regular fixture at the joint on Saturdays, where they have won over the hearts of patrons with their mix of traditional drums and thumping house beats.
The move has been welcomed as a good change of pace by revellers, who have become overfed with a diet of house hits and anthems churned out by the cityas regular cast of DJs.
It has also been hard for bands or groups to get residency at joints, as DJs are the preferred choice of entertainment in most cases.
After having initially set base at Horizon a few years back before moving on to Hartsfield Tshisa Nyama, Monks member Slimzar Wa Afrika said the group had found another joint that they could call a home.
a?The arrangement is not set in stone but for the last few months that has been the place that we have been calling home. We are proud to play at La Gondola because that is a place where people have been welcoming of our craft and sound,a? he said.
Slimzar said the group would be playing at the joint as long as they were not on tour or had arrangements elsewhere.
