Born with an innate zeal for creativity, Iphisazi Precious Nobuntu Ndlovu, known artistically as Nobuntu Poppy, is carving her path in Zimbabwe’s arts scene as a dynamic all-rounder. A poet, visual artist, and actress, she continues to explore the boundless realms of expression.

Based in the City of Kings and Queens, Bulawayo, Nobuntu Poppy describes herself as an “explorer” of the arts.
“I’ve been fascinated with art since childhood. I started exploring my creative side through poetry, drawing and painting, and acting by mimicking characters I saw in the streets,” she said.

Her inspiration, she says, stems from nature, emotions, daily life experiences — and above all, her vision. Collaborations with fellow artistes have fuelled her passion and helped shape her artistic identity.
“My artistic journey has been a winding path. I began with traditional mediums like watercolour and acrylics, and honed my acting through reading real-life stories and mirror acting. Though I’ve faced challenges along the way, each obstacle has helped refine my style,” she said.
Nobuntu Poppy has had the opportunity to showcase her talents on both local and international theatre stages. Her growing portfolio includes more than 10 projects across poetry, acting, and visual art.

Among her most memorable works is her role in the play “1894”, a powerful poetry slam performance, and an acclaimed art masterpiece that marked a turning point in her journey.

She is working on a new series of artworks inspired by her life experiences. In the realm of poetry, she is shifting her focus toward amplifying the voice of the boy child, an often-overlooked perspective in societal discourse.
“This year, I aim to expand my online presence, collaborate with other creatives, and participate in more exhibitions. I’m also planning to explore new artistic adventures like sculpture and more acting,” said Nobuntu Poppy. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
