UPCOMING Afro fusion musician, Nicholas “Nixaz” Mazvazva, has urged fellow artists to campaign against the ill-treatment of children at home and school.
In an interview with H-Metro, Nixaz said artists were supposed to do more to ensure the safety of children was guaranteed.
“Artists and musicians are very powerful and influential tools that can spread the word about how precious children are as they are the future of the next generation.
“Through art and music, people can realise the potential in their children.
“Artists and musicians can also unite even with the Government to do campaigns against child abuse and even supporting the children through their music, monetary support and material support.
“As artists, we can also compose and sing songs that touches souls and which are in line with the campaign against child abuse.
“The songs should teach people how child abuse can destroy the future of our children.
“That way, I believe, we can fight child abuse together as a nation.”
He said there was need to educate children on ways to keep themselves safe from harm. “The best way we can keep our children safe at home, and school, is through educating them about different situations they might encounter in life and how to react wisely. Parents, school teachers and school heads, church leaders and the society at large have to do regular checks on the way the children live and act.
“We need to create a bond with them so that they feel comfortable to tell us about how they are feeling. Above all, awareness campaigns should be done regularly in schools, churches and societies at large so that everybody knows how to handle problems that children may face,” he told H-Metro.
The musician said he was heartbroken by how children were being abused these days.
“I am heartbroken that so many cases are being reported about child abuse and I think strong measures should be put and the law should enforce hard sentences to those who abuse children.
“Children must be treated fairly with love.”
