Cyclone Gezani expected to enter Mazambique Channel

TROPICAL Cyclone Gezani – which made a landfall in the Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar yesterday, killing nine people and causing widespread destruction – is expected to re-enter the Mozambique Channel this evening (Wednesday).
In a weather report, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), said the weather phenomenon is likely to gain strength there later this week.
“After gradually weakening as it crosses Madagascar, Tropical Cyclone Gezani is expected to re-enter the Mozambique Channel on Wednesday evening; likely as a tropical depression or moderate tropical storm. Further intensification is then forecast,” said the MSD.
The weather forecaster added that Gezani could reach tropical cyclone strength around Friday following a trajectory that gradually curves southwest.
“Landfall on the Mozambican coast between Friday evening and Saturday is possible but remains uncertain,” said the MSD.
