A COWDRAY Park woman who claimed she was using dagga for “steaming” has been slapped with 525 hours of community service after cops caught her red-handed with 40 sachets stashed in her jacket.
Nomalanga Mlalazi (31) was nabbed on 22 May 2025 after detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics raided her home following a tip-off.
According to prosecutor Ellen Matenga, a search was conducted in Mlalazi’s bedroom and 40 sachets of dagga were found in the pockets of her blue jacket.
The stash was weighed at Zimpost Bulawayo in her presence and clocked in at 102 grams with a street value of ZIG 2 652.
Asked to explain herself, Mlalazi told the court she wanted to use the dagga for steaming. But Magistrate Mehluli Moyo was not convinced.
“I won’t buy that statement. You are using that as an excuse before the court,” he said.
Mlalazi was ordered to complete 525 hours of community service at ZRP Magwegwe starting 2 June 2025. She must finish the punishment within 16 weeks or risk facing jail time.
From steaming to sweeping, her excuse just went up in smoke.
