The match was supposed to have been played last Wednesday but did not take place with Ah-Sat claiming that Highlanders developed cold feet after one of their players fell ill but Bosso claimed that Ah-Sat captain Wayne Brandt had informed them that he was travelling to South Africa on business hence the cancellation.
“The players traded insults accusing each other of lying to the Press about the reasons for the cancellation of last week’s match,” said one of the players who was at the venue.
He said some people who had come to watch the match had to leave in a huff as the situation threatened to explode.
The match was finally played and Ah-Sat won 23-16, handing Highlanders their first defeat.
Highlanders darts club chairman Jotham Ndiweni said they would write a letter of apology to well-known sporting personalities that had taken their time out to come and watch the game.
“As the chairman of Highlanders darts, I am going to write personal letters to all those personalities that were there because Highlanders as an institution has a reputation to protect and we should not be seen to condone violence. Personally, I also did not expect such kind of behaviour from some of the Ah-Sat players,” said Ndiweni.
Meanwhile, league action continues this evening with the last matches of the first half with Railstars still unbeaten.
All the four championship favourites are on the road, leaders Railstars are travelling to Espotini Sports Bar in Entumbane to face ZRP (Bulawayo), Highlanders are squaring off with another uniformed side, Khami while Ah-Sat will face Old Nic Mine in Killarney.
Vaiton Refrigeration sponsored Archers have a date with league debutants Zimbabwe Saints at the Zimbabwe Saints Club House in Queens Park.
In another development, a total of 14 players were picked for the final selection trials to choose a team that will represent Bulawayo in the upcoming Heroes Holidays Tournament set for Esigodini Agricultural College in Matabeleland South.
The selected players will now clash with the 14 seeded players for the final trials set for this weekend. Winners from the weekend selection meet will then proceed to the finals in Esigodini.
