BULAWAYO media personality and long-serving sports administrator, David Simba, says he is humbled to be appointed to the SRC Board, a key step in his journey within Zimbabwean sport.

Simba, known for his work as a sports presenter and commentator on radio and television, has been actively involved in sport since 2003.

He’s served on the Bulawayo Youth Games management committee, earning a reputation as a committed and passionate contributor to grassroots sport.

His appointment to the SRC Board was announced yesterday.

“I’m so grateful and humbled by this appointment,” Simba said. “I pledge to serve my country in the best way I know.

“I trust that God will give me the wisdom to carry out my duties. I also appreciate everyone who has played a role in shaping my sporting journey.”

Simba also serves as a senior minister at one of Bulawayo’s Pentecostal churches, bringing to the board a unique blend of community engagement and faith-based leadership.

He joins a team led by Nathaniel Madzivanyika, who takes over as SRC Board chairperson from Gerald Mlotshwa, whose term ended last month.

The new board’s mandate runs until July 7, 2029.

The appointment is part of what the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture described as a strategic drive to strengthen governance in sport and recreation.

The move was made in line with Section 11(9) of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act, and complies fully with Section 5 of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act (Chapter 25:15), which outlines how the board is structured and appointed.

In a letter confirming the appointments, Ministry Secretary Nicholas Moyo congratulated the new board and said the Ministry expected them to play a transformative role across Zimbabwean sport.

“The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture extends its congratulations to the incoming board and anticipates a fruitful tenure dedicated to the advancement of sports and recreation for all Zimbabweans,” Moyo wrote.

“We look forward to a period of accelerated growth and success for our athletes and all stakeholders.”
