Dr Obert Mpofu
Political zealots who seek to propagate fear are always doomed to fail. The days of political fanaticism are long gone.
Practical politics is all about what you can deliver to the masses.
Failure to deliver often leads to loss of support from the people.
ZANU PF has constantly and consistently delivered on people’s expectations, which is why it is eternally connected to the masses.
The people will never abandon ZANU PF and, likewise, ZANU PF will not forsake the people.
I have often argued that the average Zimbabwean is a practical individual.
Zimbabweans generally have no time to waste.
They are a focused people who always have their eyes firmly set on achieving practical and useful goals.
They are difficult to deceive.
This is why Zimbabwe has remained peaceful in spite of concerted efforts by our detractors to sow division and incite unrest.
Zimbabwe has suffered a lot from opposition elements that called for sanctions from the West.
It is, therefore, unfathomable that the masses would support those responsible for their suffering.
Our people are far wiser and can see through the machinations of selfish false saviours, whose only motivation is to attain power at all costs.
ZANU PF will never allow this to happen.
Our people will always protect the gains of our liberation struggle.
Politics is a people-oriented endeavour. False promises will not cut it.
Populist rhetoric will never find any takers. There is, therefore, need to be always fully aware of people’s needs.
The ZANU PF Government has always strived to ensure that our people are fully empowered.
Zimbabwean voters are unique in that they demand practical returns for their ballots and will always hold politicians to account.
Politicians have no option but to perform as per expectation.
This is why voters are important.
The rural voter who understands this has always stuck with ZANU PF, while urban voters seem to have learnt their lesson from corrupt and useless opposition parties that do not deliver.
In recent times, the urban voter has awakened to the harsh reality that these briefcase political parties will not serve their cause.
It has taken the intervention of President Mnangagwa’s administration to try and clean up the mess that
Harare has become.
The rot in the country’s once-glittering capital has been caused by opposition cabals who have used their control of the city’s administration as an opportunity to loot.
Overall, in all of the failed efforts to destabilise our country and illegally dislodge ZANU PF from power, our enemies have always miscalculated the power of the masses.
ZANU PF is a mass party, and that surely means something.
Our movement resides in the hearts and minds of our people; it is a movement that is owned by the people.
People can never betray that which they own. Scare tactics are old-fashioned and will not work, especially when the people know the truth.
The preoccupation of many Zimbabweans is the attainment of economic emancipation under the leadership of ZANU PF. Anything that seeks to derail their objectives will not succeed.
Dr Obert Moses Mpofu is an academic and the Secretary-General of ZANU PF. He writes in his own capacity.
