IT is a known truth all over the world that every normal human being has his/her soul yearning for spiritual interaction or fulfillment and this results in people scrounging around for things to pray their reverence to or put in other words they look for objects to worship including animals.
It is also common knowledge that behind every creation there is a creator behind every invention there is an inventor.
Generally, mankind believe that there is a superior being called God and many, including myself have gone a step further to believe that his God has a son called Jesus Christ who came on earth and died for mankind’s sins only to resurrect on the third day to return to the father God.
It is this same Jesus Christ who sent the Holy Ghost to anoint and to empower those who believe in Him and this means that every believer of Christ or Christian is eligible to the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Also because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ every believer can freely access God the Father and ask for any good thing he wants from the same.
The problem now is when people begin to bend scriptures and distort them to suit their personal agendas which among many include the desire for glory (the reason why the devil was thrown down from heaven), desire to accumulate wealth and an outright anti-Christ disposition. The Bible says not all who says ‘Lord Lord shall enter the kingdom of God’,‘and they will come to me saying, ‘Lord didn’t we prophecy, heal and do many miracles in your name’, and I will say to them depart from me you workers of inequity, I never knew you.
We have people who are into sorcery, Satanism and occult claiming to be prophets so that they can deceive people into believing that it is of God.
The work of the prophet is speaking on behalf of God so as to edify an individual or church, rebuke the same, give specific instructions or warn of an impending danger in some instances.
However, in the case of a warning prophecy the idea is not to sort of pronounce judgment or instill fear but to make a person or people take preventive action by obviously praying to God.
Now when a prophet continuously foretells of death it becomes disturbing. There is nothing like a prophet of death in the Bible and we only hear of the angel of death. The abuse of anointing oil is another worrying issue.
For a start anointing oil is a biblically acknowledged substance essential for ministry in specific or special circumstances.
Both Old and New Testaments of the Bible speak of anointing and oil. According to Crusade’s Concordance to ‘anoint’ is (a) to pour upon Genesis 28:18, (b) to consecrate and set one apart to an office Exodus 28:41. (c) To smear or dumb John 9:6,11. The anointing oil and how it was supposed to be manufactured and used is mentioned in the book of Exodus 37 : 29 and Leviticus 8 v 12. Among other uses the anointing oil was mainly used for consecrating spiritual leadership and many biblical characters like Aaron and his sons, David the King, Saul and others went through this process.
It saved to highlight the spiritual significance of the exercise and to formally and to officially introduce someone as having been set apart to execute certain functions in the things of God. That was in the Old Testament.
The use of anointing oil is mentioned in the New Testament in James 5 vs 14 where it says ‘is any sick among you?
Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.’
Now this is the most outstanding instruction in the New Testament about how to use the anointing oil besides in the burial of Jesus Christ and this scripture does not give pre-eminence to anointing oil alone but to prayer in the name of the Lord.
In other words, in the New Testament the anointing oil is nothing but a mere substance if it is used without the acknowledgement and exaltation of the name of Jesus.
It is also important for the church and the general public to note that as Christians our faith is entirely based on Jesus Christ and to exalt or make anything else the gospel is outright heresy. It is equally important to know that according to the above scripture it is the elders or church leaders who keep and administer this important substance and the current trend in the new churches where some are selling this ‘anointing oil’ or giving it out to parishioners with the invitation to come and get more once you run out is both unbiblical and very heretic.
This has seen people engaging in clandestine activities to acquire both wealth and supernatural power. It is a fact that the devil is in constant contestation against God because he rebelled against him and was banished and so the devil hates God and his children with a passion. Because the devil is a banished spiritual being everything about him has become negative including the so called ‘miracles’ being administered by these so called prophets.
Negative miracles are very temporary and this has resulted in many people losing a lot of cash and property believing that they will receive more miraculously.
In one scripture, God says these people have run to prophecy but I never send them’. So some people are busy doing God’s ‘work’ but He never send them and this exposes them to demonic spirits which makes them prophecy in rebellion.
