THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) women’s darts team is through to the semi-finals of the Chancellor of Zimbabwe State Universities Staff Games at Great Zimbabwe University, Masvingo on Thursday.
The team that consists of Tariro Mbofana, Brenda Ndlovu, Pretty Ncube, Mirriam Mudzingwa, Sichelesile Moyo, Noxolo Moyo and Candy Sibanda earned themselves a slot in the semi-finals against Lupane State University after winning all their games in the group games on Wednesday.
At the competition which began on Sunday with 13 teams drawn into four pools whose group winners progressed to the semis, Nust emerged among the favourites.
The Bulawayo ladies darts team who are the defending champions, accounted for Zimbabwe Open University 10-3, they beat Women’s University of Africa 10-2 and ended their group campaign with a 9-6 victory over ZIMCHE in a fixture that was described by Mbofana as tense.
“We played against ZIMCHE yesterday (Wednesday) and the game was tense because they were also good,” she admitted.
“We also played against WUA in the quarter-finals which made us qualify for the semi-finals later today (Thursday),” she said.
The ladies are ready to play against Lupane State University in a semi-final match today.
University of Zimbabwe, Midlands State University, Bindura University of Science and Education, Chinhoyi University of Technology and Harare Institute of Technology, ZIMCHE, Women University of Africa and Zimbabwe Open University are the institutions taking part.
