DELTA Beverages marketing director Imirayi Muzorewa is delighted with the progress being made in the rehabilitation of Zimbabwe’s stadia.
Speaking at the 2024 Soccer Stars Banquet in Harare on Friday, Muzorewa hailed the efforts of stakeholders, who are working to improve the country’s sports infrastructure.
“Every stakeholder must play their part in improving football in the country. I am encouraged that discussions are on for the rehabilitation of stadiums.
“A few weeks ago, l had a meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and, from the budget as well funds being poured into the rehabilitation of the stadiums, it is our hope that these plans come to fruition.
“It is important that there is work on our stadia because there has been a sad scenario with our teams that qualified for continental football playing outside the country,” said Muzorewa.
Several local stadia are undergoing renovations to improve their facilities.
Rufaro is set to receive a major facelift with the installation of new bucket seats and improved facilities.
The stadium’s Western grandstand, including the VIP enclosure, will be fitted with 6,000 new bucket seats, with a further 16,500 seats to be installed in the coming weeks.
The National Sports Stadium is also undergoing renovations with the government allocating funds for the upgrade of the giant facility.
The country’s biggest stadium is expected to be ready for use by next year.
Muzorewa also took the opportunity to call for improved officiating in the league.
“The quality of officiating has been under the spotlight for some time now and I hope that something will be done to improve it when the new ZIFA leadership comes in,” he said.
Delta are the main football sponsors in this country.
The company sponsors the domestic Premiership and the country’s biggest knockout tournament, the Chibuku Super Cup.
